Custom Turquoise Bead Bracelets — Natural or Stabilised Turquoise

Turquoise is a copper aluminium phosphate, and its color comes from its copper content. As a bead, it has one practical problem: untreated turquoise is porous, so it drinks finishes and can absorb the color of whatever it touches. That is the whole reason a stabilised grade exists.

Which grade you buy changes the product, not just the price. Untreated natural turquoise looks the way turquoise looks in a mineral reference — variable, sometimes chalky. Stabilised turquoise has been impregnated with a resin, which lowers porosity and gives a more even color and a more predictable finish. Neither is fake. Selling stabilised as untreated is the only version of this that is dishonest, and we do not do it — the grade is on the spec sheet.

Stone beads put no metal against the skin except the findings. Turquoise itself is not metal, so ASTM B117 or EN 1811 do not apply to the bead. The clasp, end caps and any metal spacer are the metal parts, and those are the parts we check against EN 1811 nickel-release. Specify before you quote: grade (see the two options), bead shape and size, target strand length, cord or thread type, clasp and findings metal, your target price band and quantity.

What the samples show: turquoise beads ranging from lightly veined strands to more even-coloured mini-bead strands — veining is part of how turquoise varies, and the grade you buy (natural or stabilised) is the one named on the spec sheet; we do not grade a purchase from photos. Sample styles include elastic stretch fits, a multi-wrap cord style, and accent beads — a gold-tone gourd charm, a yellow bead, red and black spacers and small gold-tone accents — all of which can be kept, changed or dropped.

FAQ

Is stabilised turquoise the same as natural turquoise? No. Stabilised turquoise has been treated with a resin to reduce porosity. It is still turquoise, but it is the treated material, and it is listed and invoiced as stabilised. We do not ship stabilised stone under a natural-only description.

Why is stabilised turquoise more expensive per bead? Because the resin treatment and the tighter grade band both add process. You are paying for uniformity and for a bead that finishes predictably.

Will natural turquoise discolor on contact? Untreated porous stone can pick up color from cosmetics, perfume and sweat over time. That is a material property, not a defect, but it is worth knowing before you sell it and before you write a care claim. Say so in your listing rather than promising it will not change.

Can I mix turquoise with metal or pearl beads? Yes. Give us the bead order and ratio and we quote the mixed strand as one SKU — see metal bead bracelets and freshwater pearl.

How long does a bead bracelet order take? Turquoise beads and findings are stock components and the strand is assembled by hand, so samples take about 15 days and bulk production runs about 25 days from your approved sample.

Can we copy the charm and accent-bead mixes in the photos? Yes. The gourd charm, the yellow bead, the red and black spacers and the small gold-tone accent beads are sample styling — keep them, swap them or drop them. Describe the mix you want and it is quoted into the strand structure; the turquoise grade stays the one you specified on the order.

Two grades of the same stone. Natural is softer and more variable; stabilised holds its finish better as a bead. Both are sold for what they are — never as each other.

• Bead material: built in turquoise stone — every bead is checked by eye at incoming QC for colour consistency, hole alignment and surface defects, then re-checked after stringing.
• Treatment disclosure: bead material can be natural or treated (stabilised, dyed or heat-treated). Whichever you order is written on the spec sheet — we do not sell treated stone as untreated.
• Metal parts only: the clasp, end caps and any metal findings are the only metal in the piece and are checked against EN 1811 / EN 12472 nickel-release before shipment (see compliance & testing).
• Cord & construction: elastic or waxed cord is specified by diameter, stretch and knot finish — the cord is a textile, so we spec it but make no metal-free certification claim for it.
• Process control: ~15-day samples, ~25-day bulk production for a bead strand, QC on every batch before shipment.
