Bracelet and Necklace Size Calculator

Chains and bangles are sold by length, not by a finger size — so the number that matters is your wrist, your hand or your neck. The calculator below takes one millimetre measurement and turns it into the length or the inner diameter you should order. (For rings, use our ring size calculator.)

How to measure at home

1. Bracelet. Wrap a strip of paper snugly around the wrist bone you will wear it on, mark the overlap, measure in mm. That is your wrist circumference — the calculator adds 18 mm for the clasp and the gap the clasp needs to close.
2. Bangle. A rigid bangle has no clasp, so it has to pass over your hand. Measure across the widest part of your hand in mm and switch the calculator to that mode. Wrist circumference only ever gets you an approximation here, because the hand is the bigger number.
3. Necklace. Measure around the neck at the base, where a necklace naturally sits, in mm. The calculator maps that to the common length tiers (choker / princess / matinee).

Why size matters for stainless steel

316L stainless doesn't stretch, and a PVD or plated finish won't "give" like leather. A chain that is 10 mm too short sits wrong; a bangle that is 5 mm too small won't go on. Measure once, order right. Our 316L vs 304 guide and care guide cover keeping the finish bright after it fits.

What the numbers assume

The calculator is arithmetic, not a fit guarantee. Three things it cannot know:

• Clasp type. A lobster clasp needs the 18 mm allowance; a magnetic or sliding clasp needs less because the chain can move.
• Weight. A heavy cable chain hangs differently from a fine trace chain at the same stated length.
• Charms and beads. The first one eats effective length. If the bracelet will be loaded, work out the plain length first and then decide how much bead you can fit.

For necklaces, the assumption is simpler and worth stating directly: length equals neck circumference plus the distance you want the pendant to hang below the throat. A choker sits 20 mm down, a princess about 70 mm, a matinee about 200 mm. Change the drop and the length moves with it — that is the whole lever.

FAQ

Should I size up for charms? Yes — beads and charms add effective length, so a bracelet that carried charms at its plain length will pull. Work out the plain length first, then go up a size rather than down.

My wrist is between two sizes. For a chain bracelet, size up; the clasp hides the slack. For a bangle, size to the knuckle, not the wrist — the knuckle is the number that decides whether it goes on.

Does this work for anklets? Yes — treat an anklet like a bracelet, but the ankle is lower and swells more, so start from the calf bone measurement and add 25 mm rather than 18.

Why does the bangle answer come from my hand and not my wrist? Because a rigid bangle is a closed circle. It goes over the hand and stops there, so the hand width is the dimension that limits it. The wrist figure only tells you where the circle sits once it is on.

What this means for your order

If you are still deciding, one thing decides this for you: how the customer's own measurement enters the calculation - a soft tape around the wrist is short by a millimetre and a rigid tape is not, and the two give different closes. Everything else on a quote page is presentation.

Where this falls short not worth wiring up if the sizing rule is already printed on the packing, since the customer has no reason to open the page.
